You have landed on the right page, and we are grateful that you did! Volunteers help our team to create change, everyday, for young people in Durham. Your time and talent ensure that students have access to individual attention while they are completing school and homework assignments, as well as quality programming and a strong organization to support them during a stressful time.
From an hour or afternoon of advice, to recurring service in the program or on the board, Rebound relies on a network of community volunteers to execute its mission. Learn about the teams below to determine if one fits your strengths. Not sure? Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to get in touch with staff who can match your strengths to the needs of the organization.
Students have academic time from 9:30-11:30 each day, in which they work on individual assignments from their classes. In order to maintain our strengths based approach, tutors new to the program receive a brief training before being matched with students. DPS or Rebound background check required.
Advocates are community members who commit to stay up to date with Rebound through email and forward relevant information to community organizations or faith communities.
Rebound’s programming is designed to be a window into the community that helps students connect with goals and interests. Rebound works with individuals and organizations who volunteer to provide programming on topics relevant to young people.
The outreach team is a group that assists the board with creating and executing outreach materials such as newsletters, brochures, or other PR materials. Currently we have a need for volunteers with document design and publishing skills, as well as a volunteer to help create newsletters in Mailchimp.
The technology team is a new group that works to research and implement technology changes that will help the board and program staff better achieve mission objectives. Needs range from tasks as simple as website maintenance or researching tech upgrades to larger projects. Currently, the technology team is working on revisions to the Rebound website and data management.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is responsible for maintaining the mission and funding of Rebound. Applications are accepted year-round, with new members voted on in December or June.
What our volunteers are saying
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to volunteer with Rebound. [This] has already been a life changing experience that has opened my eyes up to so many new things.Karli, Junior at UNC
This is a hard but rewarding job. I could teach much higher level academic content, but that wouldn’t work my interpersonal and motivational skills nearly so much. It is a unique and rewarding challenge.Asher, Duke Graduate Student
