Exciting news! Rebound has been awarded a grant from the Durham County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC). Durham’s ABC Board supports programs that prevent alcohol and drug abuse. We are proud to have received this award.
One of our primary goals is to address the root causes of short-term suspensions. For some students, substance abuse is part of a chain of events that results in exclusion from school. The Rebound Day Program and ReCenter @ Riverside offer substance abuse prevention resources to students on or at risk of short-term suspension. These resources include:
- Screening for substance abuse problems
- Referrals to agencies that address substance abuse
- Individual and group counseling
- Support for healthy living, including nutrition, exercise, and meditation
Additionally, suspensions are traumatic events that can put students at greater risk for mental health and substance abuse disorders. Rebound’s efforts to prevent suspensions and to provide a supportive environment to students on short-term suspension help protect our teenagers from substance abuse.
Substance abuse prevention helps students stay in school. It also saves lives. As our community struggles with the challenges wrought by covid-19, our teenagers need our support more than ever. We are glad to have the Durham ABC Board as a partner.
